oooh, this is an interesting book. Very, very dark with an interesting premise and high stakes. Love that. I enjoyed the building relationship between Ashton and Liz very much. I loved Frederick as a secondary character, and wish we'd seen more of him. Derek, the hero, was an enigma to me for much of the book, and I did struggle some with understanding Ashton's affection for him. It seemed a little stolkholm-syndrome-ish at times. This could have been mitigated by revealing more of Derek's character. Which brings me to the reason I didn't give the book 5 stars (really the only reason): it was written in first person, which I rarely enjoy. I really, really wish this had been told in 3rd, but it didn't completely detract from my enjoyment of the book, it just put a little damper on it.
